Foxies Grooming Factsheet

If this is your first visit to Foxies, you may have a few questions regarding your dogs grooming

session. We have listed below the procedure of the session and hopefully answer some of your

questions.

On arrival, we will complete a grooming record card for your dog. We require your contact details,

the dogs name, age, sex, and vet’s name, also if your dog has any health problems we should be

aware of, and then record you’re grooming instructions for the grooming checklist. We will also

need to know if your bitch has been spayed. If not, the date of her last season, as this has an effect

on the condition of her coat. Please notify us if your bitch will be in season around her appointment

as we will have to make sure no entire dogs are in the salon at the same time.

QUESTION

: How long will I have to leave my dog at the salon?

ANSWER

: Most grooming sessions takes approx. 2 – 3 hours to complete, so please plan to leave

your pet for AT LEAST that long. There are several variables that affect the amount of time your pet

will be our guest, such as the condition, length and texture of your pet’s coat, the size and

behaviour of your pet, hand striping of wire coats will take longer. We do our best to schedule the

appointments by staggering the IN times so that we can begin working on your pet immediately. As

a result of those staggered IN times, the amount of time your pet is here is reduced. We will call you

as soon as your pet is ready, or almost ready, or give you a time on arrival, so he/she won’t have to

be here any longer than necessary. HOWEVER, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE A SET AMOUNT OF TIME,

ALL TIME QUOTES ARE ESTIMATES. We like to take time to do a beautiful job and your pet will

remain more relaxed if he/she does not sense the groomers is in a rush, so please allow us the time

we need to do the job right.

QUESTION:

Will my dog be kept in a cage while in the salon?

ANSWER:

Yes. That is the best way to ensure the safety of your pet while here. Your pet’s safety and

well-being is our top priority!

The grooming session will begin with:-

Coat Evaluation

: Your pet’s skin and coat will be examined for any irregularities, such as lumps,

bumps, flaky skin and external parasites. Any problems found will be reported to you.

Eyes and Ears

: Your pet’s eyes and ears will be checked for redness, odour or discharge. Any

problems found will be reported to you.

The Pre-Groom

: Your pet’s coat will be brushed and combed to remove dead, Knotted or light

matted hair. If your dog’s coat requires a style, which needs to be clipped, the first clip may be given

at this stage – if your dogs coat is badly matted a full clip off will be given at this stage.

The Bath

: Foxies uses a walk in bath with an attached Hydrotherapy shower unit. The selections of

shampoos used are soap free and hypoallergenic, especially formulated for adult dogs and puppies.

The type of shampoo is normally dependent on the coat and skin evaluation results. We are able to

use any prescription shampoo your vet has prescribed. Foxies sell the shampoo that we have

selected to use on your pet in the salon, (some clients like to shampoo their dog at home between

grooming visits). A high velocity dryer will be used to massage the skin and remove excess water

from the coat. Your pet’s anal glands will be checked only if requested, but if your dog is a large

breed, we would recommend a vet’s visit as this may have to be carried out internally.

Drying, Styling and Clipping

: A floor standing dryer may be used to dry the dog on the grooming

table, whilst brushing and combing the coat, or the drying cabinet may be used in conjunction with

the high velocity dryer. The finish clip or styling will then be given at this stage.

Nail Trim

: Your pet’s nails will be trimmed during the grooming appointment.

Appearance

: Your pet will be clean, smelling fresh and have a beautiful haircut.

QUESTION:

Do you tranquilize the pets?

ANSWER:

NO. We never tranquilize your pets. Your vet may prescribe tablets if needed.

QUESTION

: Do I need to make an appointment?

ANSWER

: Yes. Please call 1 week ahead. There are times when it is just impossible to get your

pet in on short notice. Please call to make sure we have an available time slot. Holidays are

extremely busy times. You WILL need to call ahead. All Grooming is by appointment only to

minimize the time your Pet will be at Foxies.

QUESTION

: Will my dog be taken outside to go to the toilet?

ANSWER:

Not during a normal grooming session. Being located near a busy road the safety of your

pet would be put at risk if taken outside for a potty walk. Please walk your pet before bringing

him/her into the salon. Please remember to clean up after your pet. Dog pooh bags are provided

free of charge in the salon.

QUESTION

: When should my puppy have its first professional grooming?

ANSWER

: After your pup has had all his vaccinations. Grooming for a pup should start as soon as

possible. This helps to let the pup become acquainted with the sounds of the salon environment,

noises such as dryers, clippers, other dogs etc. For pups first grooming session we probably will NOT

do a full haircut. Why not drop of your pup for play and cuddles, while you pop to the local shops.
